I love New York

Ok, I love New York. Hardly the first time those words have been uttered, I know, but today, I fell just that bit more in love with this city. Me and every head of state that is in town today for the UN opening. We all know those different types of love: love at first sight as a 3 day tourist mesmerized is different from what it feels like getting to know this city. I love my tree lined quiet street (not as much the 5 floor walk up), I love walking out of the office at lunch time on one of the busiest and most famous intersections in the whole city, I love the atmosphere, the street vendors, even the occassional shreek of sirens- this city is just so alive. And i love days like today, because most of all, I love my job :) OK I know leaving at 7am and returning at 11pm doesn't sound like professional nirvana to most people. Especially for an unpaid internship. However, to all skeptics out there, this is why you should get into communications. It is fun. A long, busy and sometimes stressful day at the office is interceded by New York sightseeing tips from my lovely boss (for my lovely guest flying in tonight), and those moments of success when an excellent idea comes into fruition in your mind. Lunch is out on the street where the sun decided to grace us with it's Presence. . And then, as 5pm rolled around and half the office had gone to meet some out-of-town VIPs at Newark airport, my fellow intern and our boss got in our preordered cab (seriously the way to go in this town) and headed over to our pre-UN event at a hotel on the Upper East Side. The UN opened its 66th session today, and traffic was even more crazy with the heads of every country and their 5 cars each (equipped with flashing lights) trying to speed around. As we entered the hotel, the doorman pointed out across the street what will be tonight's home for MR. OBAMA himself, who would be arriving in an hour. Oh my. After getting checked off the list, then came a few hours of speakers, a photographer taking our picture! And lots of free chips and yogurt. When the event wound up, the streets were deserted, except for an 8-car convey that dropped off what seemed to be President Obama at the hotel's back entrance. My Australian self was jumping up and down in high heels, whilst my American companions looked on in a more dignified manner. Whether it was patriotism or excitement about a world wide leader, I'll let you decide. My excellent boss then took Troy and I out for dinner, a much more appealing option then my planned snacks at home. What a charming evening in the big city. Where else is a 9:45pm table peak hour for restaurants on a Wednesday night? Now, I've just stepped in the door at home, and a certain visitor from Australia should be flying into LaGuardia as I write. It's funny how when you're busy, energy is unlimited :) New York, I love you I do, more so as a resident, then as a tourist.
